It’s hard to believe that a coastal town in the state of New York can have such a huge impact on the homes we build in Australia. Hamptons style homes have been embraced by Australian home buyers for their striking features that fit with both coastal and country landscapes. A Hamptons style house offers street appeal with it’s eye catching facade. The relaxing environment internally has light filled spaces and mixes textures to create a beachy vibe. In this blog we will give you our best tips and tricks on how to achieve a Hamptons style in your brand new JG King Home.

At JG King Homes we have multiple Hamptons style homes with multiple floor plan choices. You can search our homes here.

Features of a Hamptons Style Home

It’s easy to identify a home that has been designed to lends itself towards the Hamptons style. They almost feel like you are stepping into a beach side holiday home, ready to relax and unwind. There are some characteristics of these homes that you can include to help achieve a Hamptons vibe.

Hamptons Style Lighting

When it comes to a Hamptons style house lighting is important to achieving the style. Typically, a Hampton’s style home is well lit and filled with a lot of natural light. When it comes to artificial lighting statement pendant lights are regularly chosen for impact and to further extend the style especially in key areas such as the kitchen.

Hamptons Style Furniture

Hamptons house interior design is meant to exude a relaxed and beachy vibe. A mixture of textures, soft furnishings and patterns are key features of Hamptons style furniture. To create a relaxing space think soft, cushioned furnishings in materials like linen and soft colour pallets. Light timbers and wickers are often a key feature in Hamptons style homes to help create a beachy feel.

Hamptons Style House Layout

When it comes to choosing a layout for a Hamptons style house design you can never have enough space. Think open plan living areas, large and luxurious bathrooms. You’d be correct in thinking “you can never have too many windows” as you want to try and make your home as light and bright as possible. One of our favourite Hamptons style homes is the Barrymore 46 with Hayworth Facade.

Hamptons Style Garden

A Hampton’s style garden should be a relaxing space, it’s generally neat and well kept comprising of mostly greenery with a small amount of flowers. Straight lines, tiled paths, crisp green grass and neat edges will help make you feel like you’re sitting in coastal New York. Wicker outdoor furniture paired with soft furnishings will help create a beautiful outdoor alfresco where you’ll feel at home reading a book or entertaining.

Hamptons Style Facade

There’s no denying that Hamptons house architecture exudes street appeal. There are some characteristics that many Hamptons style facades will feature. Like the interiors, a mixture of textures and light colour pallets flows to the exterior.

Weatherboard style facades are commonly associated with Hamptons style exteriors however, there are a few more key features that can be added to complete the look. Typically, the external colour pallet will include light greys and whites for items like renders, bricks, panelling, window frames and roofing. You may also see some stone included in your porch and alfresco pillars.

Roof pitch and gables also help create a home that would look at home in the Hamptons.

Hamptons Style Colour Palette

We’ve previously mentioned that light and bright is a general rule to Hamptons house design, but that doesn’t mean you can only choose from white paint. Light greys and linens are also used to help create an open space. Adding pops of colour can also help lift a room. Usually, muted colours are chosen. Blue is a natural choice in both navy and pastel as it helps add to the beach look. However, more modern colours can include yellows, soft pinks and cool greens are often used to add more of a modern Hamptons style.

Hamptons Style Interior

One of the easiest ways to achieve a Hamptons style house is through your kitchen finishes. Traditional Hamptons features can be paired with more modern selections for a luxe coastal look. Shaker profile cupboards paired with marble look benchtops like Caeserstone’s Statuario Maximus will have you feel like your cooking on the coast. Pairing these with brushed gold tapware will help add an eye catching modern flair.

Hamptons Style Exterior

The great thing about Hamptons house architecture is you can create a beautiful exterior on both single and double story homes. At JG King Homes we have a lot of choices when it comes to Modern single story Hampton style homes including the Tide and Somerset facades. Our double story homes also have Hamptons facade options that will look great on any size block.

Traditional Hamptons Style

A Hamptons style house has been a popular choice for over 200 years. The style has certainly evolved from the beach shack style home it originated as. A lot of Hamptons style homes still lend themselves towards a traditional style. Sticking with the classic light greys and whites, ornate details in cornice’s and skirts and stainless steel tapware.

Modern Hampton Style

As with many styles, over time, Hamptons style has evolved to give it a modern flair both internally and externally. Australian Hamptons style facade is starting to steer away from lighter colours and feature more bold, dark exteriors like charcoal grey paired with light roofing and window frames to create depth to a home.

Internally, adding more colour in areas like the kitchen joinery can help add a modern look and feel to a home. One of our favourite choices to for a bold and colourful feel is kitchen joinery in Laminex’s Spinifex.
